I finally shot a humming bird

DSC_5988

After several years of trying, I finally shot a hummingbird in flight. Like most of my shots it was a happy accident. I was shooting the flowering tree when the bird flew into the frame. My only regret is that I was shooting too slow to freeze the wings.

Nice pic!

I read your blog daily and I almost always agree completely with what you say, but I don't think I have ever commented before.

What cameras do you have and what one captured this image?

I know this is kind of off topic for here, so if you want to email the response, that would be cool.

Cameras... Nikon D70 & D300 plus an assortment of film cameras, mostly Minoltas. I shot this with the D300 and a 300mm lens.
that's beautiful.
bravo!

Beautiful. But I like the blurry wings as they are. It gives you an idea of how fast the hummingbird is moving.
Very nice! I wonder what shutter speed you would need to freeze something moving that fast? I agree with Annie that I like this one better where the body is in focus but the wings are blurry.
Now that wasn't a very nice thing to do. What did the bird do to you to be shot? Oh wait. You mean with a camera. Nevermind.
Nice shot.
