Youth Pastor Shane Horning Convicted

ShaneGarrett Hell hath no fury like a sexual abuse victim. Especially when the victim ages and finds her younger cousin the object of the youth pastors desire. Youth Pastor Shane Horning experienced this truth when he was caught sexting a 15-year-old girl.

Shane Garrett Horning, the 29-year-old former Santa Margarita Methodist Church youth pastor, was convicted today of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old female parishioner and sending sexual text messages to her 15-year-old female relative.

The San Jose resident pleaded guilty to four felony counts of oral copulation with a minor for his crimes against the then-16-year-old and one felony count of attempted oral copulation of a minor under 16 for the messages to the then-15-year-old.

Youth pastor Shane “Horny” Horning work for Santa Margarita Methodist Church. There is no sign of him on the website. It is as if he never existed.

I found the what I think is the Islamic response posted by Syed Raza Hasan as a comment on a article at KPCC..

No punishment should be given. She her self has been going to his house time and again. Which means she was a willing partner and not forced. Men and Women are not Angles. Sex is a common urge. Teachers and people working for church are as human as anybody else, so do not expect them to act like angles. To avoid or prevent the sexual contact, you have restrict chances of them comming [sic] together and agree to the moral values for all...i.e. NO EXTRA MARITAL SEX is moral or leagel [sic]. Til[sic] then it looks idiotic joke.

In this particular case she notified only because she felt jelousy [sic].

So we make extra marital sex immoral and illegal and then the problem is solved? How does that make any sense? Do we wrap our daughters in a burka and then kill them as adulterers if raped by the likes of Sean Horning? The fifth century was a long time ago. I rather read about this practice in history books then practice it now.

Do we treat the perpetrator as just acting on his urges? Does he get a couple of lashes and a stern ‘Bad Boy” from his pastor as punishment for defiling a child in his charge? Do we ignore the predatory nature of Horning’s sexual assault simply because you think the girl wanted it? Excuse me Hasan, but I don’t like you or your religious BS.

Methodist? This guy's in the wrong denomination.

Yes, sex is a common urge. No, men and women aren't "angles." Yet, most of us manage to avoid having sex with underage kids. Go figure. We institutionalize people who can't control themselves.

Mohammed's first wife was only 9 when he married her, and 12 when he consumated the marriage (or was it 5 and 9?...I can't recall.)
So Islam doesn't see child rape as a major issue. No doubt that 5 yr old girl was asking Mohammed for it.

But I just can't believe Horning did such things. Afterall, he was a Youth Pastor!!! I mean, who'd believe a Youth Pastor , a man of God would do such things? I for one am floored. I certainly hope this is the first and last time we ever hear of such an abberition of God's servants.

HE GOT OFF EASY! HE IS A PREDATOR THAT THINKS HE'S THE "VICTIM"...WHERE'S THE JUSTICE HERE? A YEAR..WITH ONLY 6 MONTHS SERVED? NO REGISTRATION??? WILL THE "GIRLS" REALLY SPEAK OUT AT THE SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA COURTHOUSE ON MARCH 12, 2010 AT THE FORMAL "SENTENCING"??? WILL IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE? PROBABLY NOT...IT'S ORANGE COUNTY...THE HOME OF MANY SEXUAL PREDATORS, LENIENT JUDGES, AND A LAME D.A.'S OFFICE! THIS GUY "GOT OFF" SO EASY!

At his sentencing even the judge said he was NOT a predator! And the "child" should have been punished for some of her not-so-childish actions...both on and off the internet! He was the adult and should not have allowed her advances...he is at fault. But not a predator. And no, the girls did not even attend the sentencing. Most likely because they knew what the judge thought of them!

Give the guy a Fucking break people!!!!! Did anyone ever hear his side of the story probably not?! and im sure the girl was a sweet innocent little angel. BULLSHIT im sure she was asking for it. clearly people are perfect and he made a mistake. GOD SAYS FORGIVE!!!!

His side of the story would not be believed...even if the girls involved admitted their not-so-innocent involvement...sweet innocent little angels they are NOT! That does not excuse his behavior, and neither does he! He was NOT the predator...but he was the adult. Thank you for your comment.

I know Shane well- he was my former youth group leader. This is shocking to say the least. I do remember all the girls at my church throwing themselves at Shane....and this was bound to happen I suppose.
