Pastor kills son

Pastor Kirk Caldwell shot and killed his 21-year-old son during a domestic dispute at his home on Christmas day.

Kirk Caldwell killed 21-year-old Jordan Caldwell after intervening in a violent confrontation between the son and a woman at around 2 p.m. at their home in suburban Philadelphia, Darby Borough police said Friday.

Kirk Caldwell fired a single shot, striking his son in the chest, police Chief Robert Smythe said. Jordan Caldwell died at a hospital shortly afterward, police said.

I don’t normally post stories like this unless charges are filed, but in the spirit of Christmas I just have to say, what the hell? How is it possible that a man who preaches non-violence finds it in himself to shoot his own son? The only reason I could think of is that he was saving the life of the woman involved in the dispute. Even then, was lethal force necessary?

If I let my imagination run wild I can at least envision a scenario where this could be justifiable. I think I'll wait for more info.

I think one of the most important matters to look at here is that this Pastor/Father/Leader is now without his son, and will have to live the rest of his life knowing that he killed his son. Imagine the toll this is going to take on him, as well as his other children, and wife. We need to lift him up in our prayers, knowing that Almighty God is going to give him the strength he needs to stand. We cannot and should not pass judgement. We were not there, and do not know what could have happened if the situation had a different outcome.

No prayers for me thanks. While I understand the devastating loss of his son, I do not understand why he chose deadly force as his only option. It makes no sense.

jordan was fighting everyon ein the house - his mother, sisters and brothers. he was high. he threw his father down a flight of stairs and broke his collar bone. now he has 3 million dollar bail. jordan has always been a troubled child.

Let's look at this, a troubled son who gets in a fight with members of hid family and the result is to shoot the person. How about shooting a leg or arm or some place non-lethal. Or how about just shooting in the air to get his attention.
I cannot see in the information reported so far any reason that shooting him was the right response.
It is true he will live without his son, but it is also true that he didn't have to kill him. Unless his son was about to kill the woman then I see no reason for this so called man of God to have the least mercy on him.
