Youth pastor William Lohn guilty

WilliamLohn2 Youth pastor William Charles Lohn pleaded guilty to charges he stole over $60K from Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church. He will serve 9 months in prison plus ten years probation and must make restitution to his former church.

Randles told Crigler that Lohn had begun writing himself additional paychecks from the church about three years ago.

At one point, Lohn had repaid some $2,700 and Randles said that the minister "always had the intent to repay the money" but over a period of time, it became "no longer feasible" for Lohn to pay back the rest "and cover up what had been done."

Lohn is a Baptist so I’m sure he has another youth pastor gig lined up just down the road in Springfield. On a youth pastors salary it will take 20 years to pay back the load. I’m sure he will land at some church as a senior pastor, now that he has experience and all.

I understand everyones anger about situations like this but questions needs to be asked. How do we stop individuals like this from commiting these crimes in our worship centers? there are many things that could have been done to avoid somone from stealing the way this Youth Pastor did. The first thing is the hiring process, are you doing a proper investigation on a candidates background? what type of investigation are you doing, what type of process are you using, are you using a proper background investigation company to assisit you? These are important questions that need to be adressed.

With over 21 years inlaw enforcement i have seen countless investigations conducted on individuals that apeared to be nice well rounded people but when you look at there background you become very suprised. Another question is why did he have access to writing checks to himself, what was the security procedure relating to the financials in your facility? these are just a few questions that i would ask in an investigation in this incident. The problem with todays Worship Centers is that they have have yet placed safegaurds in their facilities in order to avoid situations like this and wait until an incident occurs to even change policies and add guidlines. I am available to answer any question and assist worship centers in development of policies and guidlines to avoid situations like this.
