Catholic Abuse victim gets record settlement

Lou Ann Soontiens was abused by a Roman Catholic priest as a young girl. Her abuser, Rev. Charles Sylvester was convicted of 47 counts of sexual assault. Nearly 70 young woman came forward with allegations of abuse as children.

Soontiens's civil case against the Roman Catholic Diocese of London was to start on May 11, but a few days ago the diocese offered to settle for $2 million, including court costs.

It's considered to be the largest individual award for sexual abuse ever in Canada.

2 million does not seem like enough money. 2 million times 70 does not seem like enough either.

I could never see any amount of money as enough. Most of what happens to the girls after the abuse is related to it and many never recover from it. When I was married the oldest girl of my wife had been abused and she never fully got over it. She tends to lead a destructive life now.
2 million dollars won't turn back time.
