Blogroll Update: Audit update and some weirdness

Chrystal of Sunny Skeptic reported that The Raving Atheist has changed allegiances and is now the Raving Theist. There is much weirdness here. Chrystal advises that we stay away. I agree.

I finished an audit of the blogs who joined the Atheist Blogroll in February, 75% were missing. I’ve added them back as of last night. I’ve spot checked other months and have not found a problem. I’m going to call our membership at 894.

Since Chrystal is really helping out, I want to make sure all the members know how much I appreciate it. Please drop by her blog to say thanks.

I’ve set of goal of reaching 1,000 blogs on the Atheist Blogroll by the end of the year. I need your help to get the word out. Please make a post asking your readers to join. I’m sure that with 894 members, finding another 100 or so will not be a problem.

Perhaps the Raving Theist is invoking Poe's law? Certainly reads that way to me.

I know... I just don't know. It is hard to believe somebody can fall that far off the wagon.
Amanda Marcotte of Pandagon predicted this as early as July/2006

Since I found the Raving Guy to be way less friendly then most Atheists, I am not that surprised.

Here is the freshly x-ian's explanation.

I don't think it's Poe, it's too massive, and it's been too long. If anything, I'd say the person started out as a religious person, posed as an atheist, then 'converted' to prove it could happen. :) lol

Thanks for the shout out. It's fun to help, and I love to read other atheist blogs anyway, so it helps me see what's out there!

Crystal, you're on to something there (re: proving it could happen). That actually makes a lot of sense!
Yeah, if Raving is doing a Poe, he's been at it for more than a year now.
You may be right. All the more proof of how absurd raving theism is ;)

Like we need another raving theist in the world? Isn't that the entire evangelical right and every minister, rabbi, priest, etc...? Seems a little played out. :)
Wow, RA to RT makes me wanna do my own parody here -- maybe I'll start a site called 'Batshit Muslim' and then slowly convert to Scientology? Praise Allah, I mean, Praise Xenu.

Or I guess I could just stick to Atheism, but whatever.

Just what we need, another raving theist! Now, along with Turkel/Holding, we have bookends!

BTW, Mojoey, whenever I come here my Norton Antivirus flags the site as a "suspicious web page." Either something's amiss here or Symantec's got your number.

It's because I'm evil.

Well, of course you're evil. You're an atheist! But, then, you were evil before and this just started happening. Maybe it's me.... But, nah. I was evil before, too.
The Raving whatever came off rude to me. Back when I started my atheist blog (years ago) we swapped links and it was all cool...until he removed me without warning. Hey it happens, but that wasn't it. I was annoyed that he always seem to be pretentious and acted "holier than thou" (delicious pun!) I even wrote about it in '06: http://www.jewmanist.com/2006/09/raving-self-impo...
Woah...flashback!

It is funny. I read his blog once and wrote him off as a nutter way back when he joined. This does not surprise me.
Lol...His site is still ravingatheist...so what? He's the Raving A Theist? Get a new domain at least and redirect. Jeebus.

That's part of why I think it was a nut job religious person right from the start, and that they may have actually planned on this 'change'... I am no conspiracy theorist, but this is the best I can do.

Of course, if the person was irrational to begin with (it takes a while to realize that even though they probably should, atheism and rationality do not go hand in hand), then it's entirely possible they fell off the deep end and went back to religiosity.
I just noticed he has a link up to my older blog name & url now. Really? Wow. Shocker!
Has anyone noticed the Raving guy's tag line is:
"Dedicated to Jesus Christ, Now and Forever"

I guess forever only means going forward.
