Just how dumb are people?

I was standing in line at Borders today when I noticed Archangel Oracle Cards on display for sale in the impulse buy section.  I read the box.

Archangels are very powerful, wise, and loving guides who can motivate and heal you in miraculous ways. This deck of 45 oracle cards by Doreen Virtue will familiarize you with the 15 archangels, give you messages from them, help you to invoke them, and answer some your important life questions. You'll learn how to give an accurate archangel reading for yourself and others with the help of the enclosed guidebook.

What kind of person would by this complete crap?

The kind of people who put good reviews on Amazon for them, like this one:

"I came to the Indigo and Crystal Children card, which shows a beautiful angel clad in seafoam green with green and pink wings. This was the Archangel Metatron, and his message was: "You have a bond with children. In particular, you can help children who are sensitive." I immediately felt a bond with this angel, and asked him to help me as I love, nurture, and guide my Crystal son. (For more information, see my article Who Are The Indigos and Crystals?)"

Yeesh.
Hehehe, it's consumerism Mojo... nothing but. I guarantee the people in China putting that shit of a product together were thinking the same goddamn thing.
I think a good starting point in answering your question is to ask yourself what percentage of the American population believes in guardian angels. Last time I looked, the number was well over 50%.
The people who are stupid enough to fall for this are thos with a faith-based view of the world -- facts, evidence, reality, rationality all go out the window. No need for actual thought. Whatever you believe becomes reality. These cards are a perfect example of a faith-based approach to life.
