Spore, it's a game stupid

Spore has come under attack by a creationist (Anti Spore). I held off posting on this story because I thought it was a hoax, or maybe viral marketing. It turns out to be real and just dumb. The blog's author does not want our kids learning about evolution. The only reason for this is a fear that out kids will somehow connect playing around with the mechanics of evolution as teaching evolution. I don't see how that would be possible, nope, not a chance in the world

I hate to be a spoil-sport, but are you absolutely sure that blog is for real? I seriously doubt there are people in this world capable of exhibiting such stupidity while being literate and even able to operate a computer. Both activities require at least a primary school education and an IQ over 70. If that blog is real, the author exhibits neither.

I think creationists likely see the game as a threat because it exposes kids to evolution, makes it seem more real, easy to conceptualize, etc. Oh yeah, and because they are morons.

antispore doesn't seem very popular, over 900 comments on the about page, and they mostly seem to be bagging the writer.

Fake or not? I'm not sure. It seems real, but I have a problem with how stupid the whole thing seems. I mean, no one is this dumb, right?

Antispore had me fooled, but apparantly it is indeed a fake, or a "Rickroll" to use the proper terminology. It's subtle, but read the "Bible Quotes" at the end of the top post, and it goes into the lyrics of Never Gonna Give You Up. Wikipedia even has an entry on this:

As for all the comments, I think they mostly came from a link on Richard Dawkin's website. I still wonder who the admin really is. Anyone have any ideas?

Ah, it's prompted me to go buy the game. Even if it does have evil connotations of an "intelligent designer". Okay, I'll settle for "designer"...

But my local Apple store ran out of it. And they don't know when they will get more in. :-(

Spore is awesome the game lets you travel the galaxy. There are over 500,000 unique planets to explore! That's just unbelievable! Also you can create any type of creature and all the creatures you run into are from other players. No other game can claim this.. The best part of this game is the space phase, you could spend a lifetime exploring all the planets and meeting new creatures.. This game is limitless, there is no other game that comes close to this one.
