Blogroll Update: Up to 747

PHP Blogroll Script: The 40 Year Old Atheist has been kind enough to create a PHP version of the Atheist Blogroll. You can see an example here.  This should help our Wordpress users get a version of the blogroll up on their blogs.

A blogging tool for the Mac: I blog on PCs and Macs. In my last post I talked about blogging tools for the PC. This time I want to mention the Mac blogging tool Ecto. I tried several blogging tools for the Mac. It came down to Ecto, Mars Edit, and Qumana. In the end I went with Ecto for one simple reason. It works with Blogger without a lot of extra effort. I still find it difficult to use when working with graphics. For example, inserting jpg files works about half the time, and I don't know why. The problems I have with graphis are offset by the ease of editing and its nice ability to work with older posts. I find using ecto second nature now. The Mac on the other had... I'm still having my share of problems.

Let me give you an example. I screwed up this post by using the template from my last Blogroll post. Somehow my post wrote over the original June 29th post. I was able to retrieve my original post from the archive in Ecto and repost it. Ecto saved the day again.

Another thing. The PHP script does not work on my wordpress blog. Whenever I put it in a php widget, I get a blank screen with an error message telling me that the service is unavailable and does not save the changes.

I've used the normal 20-blogs code for now.

  4. Thanks for the Mac blogging info. I'll have to check Ecto out. I am loving the switch to Mac BTW.

@Dbo: That's strange. There should be no problem using this code in the sidebar.

I should clarify that to use it on a page or post, you will need to add the PHP Exec plugin ( http://bluesome.net/post/2005/08/18/50/ ) but, as I say, it *should* work without that in the sidebar.

I'll do some checking on that. Sorry for the glitch.

@mojoey: I use Ecto on the Mac. It's great!

Yah, that's the one I used. No idea why this happens :(

    PS: GNU/Linux > Mac

  9. Thanks for including me in this update, Mojoey!

I'm curious about the PH snippet.widget: I use Pivot, which is coded in PHP, so would this PHP script be of benefit to me? Is WordPress also coded in PHP, which is why this script was needed? One of the standard marquee link seems to work well enough for me (though one reader said the scrolling was distracting). Would I benefit from switching to this PHP script?
