Trial of pastor underway in Pocatello

Alleged pedophile pastor Joshua Robinson saw his first day of testimony today. Robinson is charged with two counts of lewd conduct with a minor and one count of sexually abusing a minor. He faces life in prison if convicted.

Today's testimony covered a phone call where Robinson tells the alleged victim:

From recorded phone call (Pastor Robinson): "I don't know what to tell you. I think the past is the past and is probably best left there. Bringing it up will only cause pain in the future."

Robinson took the stand and tried to make it seem like the alleged victim took advantage of him. He claimed that she had a crush on him, and kissed him on a day when he was heavily medicated.

There are problems with his story, Robinson was the adult in the relationship and should have reported the crush, the kiss, and anything else, like trying to have sex, to his pastor and her parents. He did not. I hope he likes jail, life is a long time to be a bitch.

Joshua Robinson appears to have acted like a teen aged boy in love with a girl half his age.

The girl read a letter in court that she wrote to her mother describing the alleged event. In the letter, the girl told her mother that she wanted the relationship to stop and that Robinson said that he would hurt himself if the relationship ended. She also wrote about the gifts that Robinson gave her like flowers, pictures and an Ipod.

Robinson is the youth pastor at Gate City Christian Church in Idaho.

In the wake of his arrest, church officials shifted Robinson away from youth ministry to an administrative role pending the outcome of his legal case. A court order requires that he not have any contact with anyone under the age of 18.

I did a little digging on Gate City's website. Joshua father is the Senior Pastor, which explains why Joshua is still on the payroll and is also still listed as the Youth Pastor.

My guess is that this is another case where the church stands behind it's pastor. His church website does not comment on the trial, nor do any blogs that I can find. Plus, he is using a blame the victim defense...

***Update*** Joshua Robinson has been found Not Guilty.

As a member of the Gate City Christian Church and a young women myself, I am relieved at this verdict. The Robinson's are wonderful people and God had sent them a champion to bring out the truth. God bless all the families involved.

the young girl in this story will be haunted for the rest of her life for the actions of this OLD man. he used her for his sick pleasure. it hurts me to this day to see this man happy and living like nothing happened when you know that the girl is still living in pain. i know that one day this sick man will be caught for what he has done and i can promise and god will not pitty him. i pray for the capture of this man.

Still on the internet over a year later. I too went to Gate City and was in the youth group. Worst youth Pastor I ever had. No one will read this so I wont bother going into all the wrongness of this church and its pastors. I do have every reason to believe that Josh would do and did do this. He is not the person he fakes to be at church. Only those who easily see through people would say they love Josh and his family. Havent they ever wondered why people leave and never come back. lets just say Josh has something to do with it and I do have evidence to back that up. Yes, the leaders know why and they lie to cover for him. Bet anonymous doesnt know about the meetings they've had over complaints about Josh and his behavior towards the youth girls. Complaints made by parents including the victim's mother which she made BEFORE becoming aware of what was going on. So how's that for loving and not guilty? I could go on and on about the flaws with Josh (and why they write guilty all over him), his family, and the congregation but thats too much reading.
