Another way of saying this is "Ted Haggard says he is no longer a Homosexual". Or Ted Haggard says he is not longer bisexual". I could go on and on....
The Rev. Ted Haggard emerged from three weeks of intensive counseling convinced he is "completely heterosexual" and told an oversight board that his sexual contact with men was limited to his accuser.
How one cures or curbs his issues urges in a few quick months, or ever, is a mystery. I can't pass an apple pie without my mouth watering, and occasionally I dive in for a piece. Is Haggard going to be able to resist? it is doubtful.
"He is completely heterosexual," Ralph said. "That is something he discovered. It was the acting- out situations where things took place. It wasn't a constant thing."
So he was only gay part time? And now he's not going to be gay at all?
Of course, Haggard did not mention his meth use, so he must still be an addict. And what about the lying?

So many believers look at sexuality as sin and homosexuality as the worst type of sin. Yet, even those who are not evangelical fundamentalists have prejudiced views on strict straight/gay polarity. Too many have issues with masculinity of heterosexuality versus the effiminence of homosexuality(i.e. weakness, unmanliness) and refue to aknowledge the fluid nature of sexuality and even sexual identity. The supposed morality of sexual "preference" is culturally bound. Unbiased evidence on what constitutes "normal" reveals sexuality to be naturally diverse. Some people tend to have very strong predominantly heterosexual urges, some very strong predominant homosexual urges, and many have both over the course of their lives, with a predeliction for one side or the other; a few are stuck with equal desire for both sexes. Take away the ideological biases against sexuality and peoples true natures are revealed, and true natures of people are nearly impossible to change short of trauma to the brain and hormonal system.
Haggard, one assumes, is probably predominantly homosexual and overwhelmingly self hating. Shame and humiliation will surpress his natural tendencies for only so long (Look at Swaggert and the ugly prostitute scandals). He will go secretly in search of his desires again when the pressure becomes too strong; that is, if he doesn't resort to chemical castration. He will never admit that he cannot change his sexuality through prayer or willpower and he will remain imprisoned in the pathetic closet he built for himself.
I feel sorry for the gay kids of the church who must have felt relief that Haggard had been caught with his pants down; not a great role model but proof that there were gay fundamentalists just like them... (Ernest Angely, anyone?) Now they are praying they can be converted to "normal" just like Ted, forever in conflict with the truth, forever at wars with their psyches.

Why should we believe him now?
Because he knew he was lying then, and now he's convinced himself he's telling the truth?

Some muckraker should follow the SOB in a few months and reveal how the "cure" didn't work; or hell, just give him a few frozen margaritas in a roomful of muscled gay bears, he'll be "Miss Thang" in no time.
Jon Stewart said that the "cure" must have been aversion therapy, like when your father caught you smoking a cigarette as a kid and then forced you to smoke a CARTON...
Haggard must have lockjaw.
I think it all goes back to religious views.
